1991 NHL Dispersal Draft Pick Transactions

May 30, 1991

In 1990 the owners of the North Stars had attempted to move the franchise to the San Francisco area, a move that was denied by the NHL. Instead, the league agreed to award an expansion franchise (which would become the San Jose Sharks) to the owners of the North Stars, with the North Stars to be sold to new owners. As a condition of this deal, the Sharks were granted the right to draft players from the North Stars roster.

Before the draft, the North Stars were permitted to protect 14 skaters and 2 goalies. In a dispersal draft, the Sharks were then allowed to select 14 skaters and 2 goalies from among the players on the North Stars roster who had not been protected. After the Sharks had selected these players, the Sharks and North Stars alternated selecting from the remaining players until the Sharks roster reached 30 players.

Following this dispersal draft was an expansion draft in which the other 20 teams were allowed to protect 16 skaters and 2 goalies each. The Sharks and North Stars (even though the North Stars were not technically an expansion team, they were permitted to participate in this draft as if they were) then selected from the pool of unprotected players until each team had selected 10 players.

The following is the list of players selected by the Sharks from the North Stars:
